**AI and the Creative Commons: Why We Must Demand Fairness for All Creators**

In the age of AI, we are living in an unprecedented era where technology has the capacity to analyze and learn from nearly every recorded work of humanity. From novels to music, artwork to research, large language models have been trained on a massive array of creative output. This includes a vast amount of material that has been published online — which, if you have any digital presence, could very well include your own words, images, or ideas. And for creators who make their living from their work, this reality raises important questions.

The European Union has been making strides in addressing this issue by proposing mechanisms to license and credit the creators whose works fuel AI training. However, the UK is yet to implement similar measures. While the EU moves to protect the rights of creators and ensure fair compensation, many in the UK — and globally — are left wondering why similar safeguards aren’t being prioritized here.

This conversation has taken on urgency with the growing support for the **Statement on AI Training**, endorsed by over 10,000 musicians, artists, actors, authors, and other creators from around the world. Organizations like PRS for Music have lent their voices to this statement, standing firm against the unlicensed use of creative works for AI training. The issue is clear: the lack of consent and fair compensation is an existential threat to the livelihoods of countless creatives.

As PRS for Music highlights, "The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted."

For those of us who value creativity and fairness, it’s time to add our voices to the movement. By supporting the demand for change, we uphold a future where AI and human creativity can coexist without exploitation. You can join the call for a fairer future by signing the statement [here](http://prs.info/8Qb050TRpHS) and standing in solidarity with artists worldwide.
